It’s been a busy week at Pawprint with the launch of our crowdfunding campaign. But the lockdown continues, and so does our series of lockdown tips.

6 more tips to lower your carbon footprint during lockdown

1. Shower for 1 minute less in the morning and save around 20 Kg CO2e per year; the same as driving 38 miles in terms of emissions.

At least we aren’t suggesting cold showers! The hardest bit of this tip is getting the timing right…

2. Cook big batches of food at the same time (using up more of the oven space) and save around 25 Kg CO2e per year; the same as driving 47 miles in terms of emissions.

This also gets more of your cooking done in one go — the excess can be used in the days ahead and/or frozen for later.

3. Run your dishwasher one less time per day and save around 237 Kg CO2e per year; the same as driving 445 miles in terms of emissions.

It seems as if the dishwasher is full all the time just now, because it is. Challenge yourself to run it only once a day (or twice, depending on numbers in your household) by re-using cups and glasses throughout the day and making one-pot meals at lunch/dinner.

4. Make a flask of tea/coffee in the morning to avoid re-boiling the kettle and save around 22 Kg CO2e per year; the same as driving 41 miles in terms of emissions.

You’ve probably never made up a flask for staying in before, but this works whether you are busy at your desk/dining room table, or curled up on the sofa watching Netflix.

Thanks to Allyson Pellicci for suggesting this one. If anyone reading this has some ideas for carbon-reducing lockdown tips, feel free to reach out to beth@pawprint.eco
